Pan Macmillan is to release new audio editions of twelve of Ken Follett’s classic thrillers, with some available for download for the first time. Each will be read by a different actor, with the first four released this week on 16 August. The remaining eight will be available by the end of the month.

Rebecca Lloyd (Publishing Director, Audio) bought audio rights for World English Language excluding USA and Canada for 12 backlist Ken Follett thrillers including his first novel Eye of the Needle.

All 12 audiobooks are read by a cast of well-known actors, including Richard Armitage (The Hobbit), Emilia Fox (Silent Witness), Samuel West (The Darkest Hour), Raza Jaffrey (Homeland) and Tim Downie (Paddington).

The audiobooks will launch to coincide with the release of Ken Follett’s number one bestselling book, A Column of Fire, in paperback on 23 August.

Ken Follett said:

“I listen to audiobooks, so I know how much a good actor can add to the experience. I’m thrilled to have such a great group of stars to voice my stories—and the listeners will also be delighted.”

Richard Armitage commented:

“In true Ken Follett style, The Man from St Petersburg is a thrilling political and domestic family saga, a page turner of compelling characters drawn with detailed historical accuracy. I wanted to know everything about these people and the privileged yet dangerous world they inhabit. It was a joy to read.”

Emilia Fox added:

“I didn’t want this book to end! Jackdaws is a compelling read with fantastic characters. It is an absolute joy to read aloud - thrilling, romantic and a celebration of brave women.”

Samuel West said:

“I’m delighted to be doing Eye of the Needle. It is the first Ken Follett book I have read, and although it is forty years old it still seems extraordinarily up-to-date, and a remarkable book for a man of twenty-seven, which is what he was when he wrote it. It made his name, and I have to say I’m not surprised. It is beautifully written and thrillingly exciting.”
