Pan Macmillan to publish Judith Mackrell's Going with the Boys
We are delighted to have acquired Going with the Boys, the new book from Judith Mackrell, to be published in spring 2021.
Non-fiction Editorial Director Georgina Morley has acquired WEL rights in Judith Mackrell’s Going With the Boys from Clare Alexander of Aitken Alexander. The book is a group biography of six bold and brilliant women who became war correspondents in the Second World War - Virginia Cowles, Martha Gellhorn, Clare Hollingworth, Helen Kirkpatrick, Lee Miller and Sigrid Shultz. Drawing on their own writings and images as well as on contemporary memoirs it will describe the factors that drew them towards war, the challenges they faced, the triumphs they achieved. And while it will aim to portray each of them as nuanced, complicated individuals - as women not just as correspondents - it will also weave their stories into the larger narrative of the Second World War, evoking the daily texture of wartime life. Judith Mackrell is the author of previous titles Flappers and The Unfinished Palazzo.
Georgina Morley said, ‘Working with Judith on Flappers was a delight. She is a wonderfully nuanced and sensitive interpreter of the lives of complicated, interesting women and I am certain that Going with the Boys, focusing as it does on a group of extremely interesting and very complicated women, will reach a very wide readership indeed.’
Judith Mackrell said, ‘I'm delighted to be working with the Pan Macmillan team again, and especially with George, who is such a fantastically experienced and knowledgeable editor.’
Going with the Boys by Judith Mackrell will be published in Spring 2021.
