Two novels will be books nine and ten in the Vera Stanhope series, immortalized on screen by Brenda Blethyn in Vera, and two will be new untitled novels.

Vicki Mellor, Ann’s editor said “In this, Ann’s Diamond Dagger year, we couldn’t be more thrilled that we have agreed a deal that will take us five years into the future with Ann. Ann is such a uniquely talented storyteller and it has been a joy for everyone at Pan Macmillan to work with her to achieve the wide readership and critical acclaim her talents deserve. This September Ann gained her first hardback Top Ten bestseller with The Seagull and next year we publish Wild Fire, Ann’s final novel in the second Shetland Quartet. To continue with Vera is a joy and we are positive that her new titles are going to be every bit as exciting as the iconic Vera Stanhope and Shetland novels. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate her outstanding achievements this year than with us all agreeing this new deal.”

Ann Cleeves said “I'm thrilled to agree another four books with Pan Macmillan.  After all these years, they're not just my publisher, they're my friends. I can't wait to start writing.”

Sara Menguc, Ann's agent, said “Working closely and creatively with Ann for many years has been a pleasure and an honour. Not only is she a hugely gifted writer who continues to dazzle us with each new book, she is generous in her encouragement of other writers, and a fierce and loyal advocate for libraries and reading. She has earned the respect and friendship of the incredible actors and crew who translate her work so brilliantly to the TV screen, and significantly she never takes her success for granted. For all these reasons, I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more. I’m delighted we will be working with Pan Macmillan on four more books.”

A multi-million copy international bestseller, Ann Cleeves won the CWA’s Gold Dagger for Raven Black in 2006 and has been awarded their highest honour this year with the CWA’s Diamond Dagger.

We will publish the first book in the new contract, the ninth book in the Vera Stanhope series, in September 2019 and follow on a yearly basis thereafter.
